The SPDR Gold Trust is an investment trust, formed on May 20, 2008. The Trust holds gold bars and is expected from time to time to issue Baskets in exchange for deposits of gold and to distribute gold in connection with redemptions of Baskets. The investment objective of the Trust is for the Shares to reflect the performance of the price of gold bullion, less the Trust’s expenses. As at March 31, 2010, the amount of gold owned by the Trust was 36,324,952 ounces with a market value of $40,520,483,790.

China is the world's biggest gold producer with 314 tonnes last year.
